  26. Also keep in mind that lots of people have these $2500 (and dropping)
  27. CDROM writers, and $20 blank CD-Rs, and there are plenty of people
  28. willing to make a copy of a CDROM for an extra $10.  Think of all
  29. the companies that have CD-R drives on a system sitting in a room
  30. unused all day long...  CDROM-based protection isn't very much
  31. protection these days.  Not to mention wholesale pirates who could
  32. easily invest less than $1,000 to get real CDROMs made, if they could
  33. find a duplicator, and given my experiences, they don't really care
  34. and never check that you've got the rights to dupe a disc.  A pirate
  35. could turn a CDROM LW/Win and sell them at swap meets and turn $1,000
  36. into $100,000 real quick.  Probably less risky than selling crack.

  38. More than a year ago, we got a call from an Eastern European customer
  39. who wanted a special price on the Syndesis 3D-ROM.  He said he didn't
  40. want to pay full price because he could get a pirated one-off copy 
  41. for $35, but he was willing to pay about $50 for a real one, if 
  42. we'd cut him a deal.
